

Services for Ross Elise Gibbs, 86, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mark Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gibbs was born May 30, 1929 in Henderson, Texas, the daughter of the late Jessie (Bridges) and Ross Maddux. She passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at her residence.
She was a loving wife of 65 years and a loving and caring mother. She had a great sense of humor and a smile that lit up the room. She enjoyed sewing, oil painting, golfing, and painted china. She also enjoyed gardening and Polka dancing. She taught Polka dancing at the SPJST Lodge. Mrs. Gibbs loved to travel and traveled the world over. She was a long time member of Dogwood Garden Club and Lufkin Service League (Lufkin Junior League). Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church. She assisted with the floral arrangements for Sunday morning church services for many years.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Gibbs of Lufkin; son, Mel Gibbs of Lufkin; daughter, Dona Gibbs of Lufkin; caretaker, Mary Weathered; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Fay, Don, and Jamie Maddux; and sister, Marion McElister.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Henson, Jodie Holland, Jimmy Lawrence, Greg McGrouder, Derrick Shoffett, and Drew Crawford.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Remey and Johnny Kendrick.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Gibbs’ memory may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, 106 E. Bremond, Lufkin, TX 75901; or to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
