

Mr. Harris was born October 18, 1942 in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Dora Lee (Roberts) and Ezra Harris. He passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in a local hospital.
Mr. Harris was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Lufkin Industries after 35 years, where he had been an electronic technician. He also served 2 terms as president of AFL-CIO, Local 1999 Union. He loved to fish and “stir up trouble”. He never missed Tuesday dominoes with his church buddies. He was a member and faithful attendee of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Connie Harris of Lufkin; daughter, Deborah Lee of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Rená and Thomas Lowther of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Ken Karber of Apple Springs; son, Thomas Harris of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Robby Ritchey of Southlake; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Sherry Chancelor of McKinney; grandchildren, Robert, Daphne, Chris, Julie, Colin, Adam, Benjamin, Katie, Amanda, Ethan, Rachel, Lauren, Garrett, and Kasey; 7 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Ray and Kathryn Harris of Lufkin; sister, Manda Rector of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Judy Gockley and husband Larry of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Harris.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Southside Baptist Church Sanctuary.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
