

Tommie Elizabeth (Hancock) Lyles, 88, of Lufkin, was born March 7, 1922 in Garrison, Texas, the daughter of the late Ada (Long) and Andrew Vetchel Hancock. She passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mrs. Lyles was a homemaker. She was loved by many friends and relatives and returned that love whole-heartedly. She was always happy and possessed a rare innocence. She loved gardening (she had a green thumb), cooking (especially pastries) , crocheting afghans, and oil painting. Mrs. Lyles was very spiritual and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include her nieces and their husbands, Candis and Ed Sikes of Austin and Stacie and Rex Hodges of Wells; nephew and his wife, Sheldon and Janet Sloan of California; great-nieces and nephews, Vicki, Taffy, Luke, Debbie and Donna; also a number of great-great nieces and nephews, other family members and friends who helped care for her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lyles was preceded in death by her husband, Nute Lyles (she married him on November 18, 1957; he passed away on October 18, 2001); and sister, Mildred Dugger.
Graveside services for Mrs. Lyles will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Cold Springs Cemetery in Garrison, with Bro. Gary York officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
