Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred (Godfrey) Goodale. He graduated from Danvers High School, Class of 1952.
For ten years Alton served in the Mass. Army National Guard.
In 1962 he graduated from the Mass. State Police Academy in Framingham. Alton served with seven different troops and retired from Topsfield in 1982. He was a member of the Retired Mass. Troopers Assn. and of the N.R.A.
A mason, Alton was a member of Amity-Mosaic Lodge A.F.&A.M.
He leaves his wife Mary Amy (Robbins) Goodale, three daughters Linda Furth of Beverly, Donna Cavallo and her husband Robert of Martha’s Vineyard, and Beth MacRae and her husband Ed of Norwell, a step-daughter Wendy Clark of Roanoke, WV, a brother Gordon Goodale of Orlando, FL, ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late James, Richard and Paul Goodale.
His Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Memorial Visitation in the funeral home on Tuesday 6-8 PM.
