OBITUARY

Anna Marie Malloy

28 September, 191821 July, 2020

LYNN—Anna Marie (Barber) Malloy, age 101, passed away peacefully at her son’s home on July 21, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond C. Malloy, Sr., Esq., with whom she shared more than 50 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, MA on September 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late James Barber, and Anna M. (Mullen) Barber.

Mom was a good kind and beautiful being. Her house was always open and many, many, friends have walked through those doors. Growing up was a revelation in how to be kind and genuine to everyone. Mom loved to read and she had a gift for letter writing. She was often praised for her wit, often writing about her “visits with the Queen”. Of course her nieces would play along and try to go “one up” on her, which was a fun challenge. She loved the fact that we could show her pictures of her grandchildren on Facebook. With the help of her grandson Dan, two books about her life were published on Amazon, one contains her poems and the other is her history of her life growing up in Edward’s Ct. in West Lynn. “The Memoirs of Anna Marie Malloy”, provides a glimpse into the harshness of the depression era in Lynn (F.D.R. was her Favorite). and life through WW II, as well. Mom was well read and she knew her politics. She favored unions and the poor, with whom she could relate to on a personal level. During WWII, she worked for GE as “Rosy the Riveter”. Her roots trace back to the early days of Lynn as her father was a Union Shoe worker in Lynn and she has a relative buried in the old cemetery in Market Square.

She was a proud member of I.U.E. Local 201 and was a union steward. She was a tester of B29 generators at the GE River Works Plant during WWII and also a member of Wilmington, G.E. Plant where she retired in 1984. She and her husband Ray, a former Business Agent of I.U.E. Lo. 201, lived in Kennebunkport ME for 30 years and she returned to Lynn in 2006.

Her final request was: “Mourn for me the day of my funeral, and then immediately carry on a happy life, watching the children grow…” She is missed and loved by all of us.

She is survived by two sons, Raymond C. Malloy, Jr., and Ronald D. Malloy, Esq., and a daughter Jean M. Malloy, who with son Daniel Galloway lives in Portland, ME. Also, remembered are daughter in law Ann Malloy, and deceased wife of Raymond Malloy, Barbara (Bigelow) Malloy.

Marie was predeceased by six brothers, Edward, Charles, Joseph, Hugh, Herbert (as an infant) and William. She loved her nine grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. Arrangements: At the request of the family, services will be held privately. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Marie’s honor can be made to her favorite charity, St. Judes Hospital.
