Carl was born Dec. 8, 1927 in Sundsvall, Sweden to the late Carl Alfred and Paulina (Andersson) Pearson. Carl grew up in Malden and graduated from Malden High School in 1946, joining the Army in January of 1947. Carl later earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and eventually became a registered professional engineer.
He worked for 36 years as a design engineer for GE Small Aircraft Engines in Lynn. While at GE, Carl worked on the T58, one of the first small jet aircraft engines manufactured in the United States. The T58 is still in service today powering the presidential helicopter, Marine One. Later, Carl was one of the principal designers of the T700 engine which powers the Blackhawk and Apache military helicopters and he was a co-author of a key US patent related to those engines.
Carl and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Robertson) Pearson, with whom he shared more than 69 years of marriage, settled in Swampscott where they raised their family of four.
In his retirement, Carl enjoyed woodworking in his home workshop and spending time outside gardening. He would often take long walks along Lynn Shore Drive and the local beaches and greatly enjoyed the wonderful family gatherings throughout the years. He had a lifelong interest in photography and took many of the family's best pictures, especially of his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he leaves four children: Kathy O'Brien and her husband Rich of Boxford; Carl and his wife Olga of Lynnfield; Barbara Gavin and her husband Mark of Keene, NH; and Janice Hundley and her husband Kirk of St. Petersburg, Florida. He also leaves nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ingrid Bishop, Fred Pearson and Mildred Ferreira.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and caring support that Carl received from the staff at Care One/Essex Park over the past year.
