

Loved family, friends and faith
Mrs. Catherine “Kay” (Wood) Carroll, of Port Orange, FL and formerly of Lynn, died on Thursday after a brief illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, with her family at her side. She was the wife of Michael J. Carroll. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late George and Sabina (Lambert) Wood. She graduated from St. Joseph's Institute, and from Lynn English High School Class of 1940. She and her husband relocated to Port Orange, FL, in 1983.
Kay was employed at the Sylvania plant in Salem during WWII. She worked for many years as a Dental Assistant to Dr. Fraher in City Hall Square. After raising her family, she worked at the Rectory of St. Mary's Parish for many years as secretary for Fr. Patrick Kelly and for Bishop John J. Mulcahy.
Kay was a communicant at St. Pius V Parish in Lynn where she was an active member of the Sodality. After relocating to Florida, she was a communicant at the Church of the Epiphany, Port Orange, FL, and was a Eucharistic Minister.
She was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels and for Union Hospital, Lynn.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Michael J., and by three daughters Mary King and her husband Jack of Houston, Texas, Joan Carroll of Lebanon, NH, and Catherine Bransfield and her husband, Kirk, of Lynn. She is also survived by three grandchildren Katherine King Mahan and her husband, Matthew, Kevin Bransfield and Liam Bransfield, a great-granddaughter Maddie Mahan, five nieces and nephews Stephanie MacCallum and her husband Ray, Michael Wood, Richard Wood and his wife Fran, Tony Wood and his wife Mary Elaine, and Debra Wood and her husband Matthew Bellantoni, and a sister-in-law Evelyn Wood of Swampscott. She was the sister of the late Richard Wood.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Chapel, Lynn at 10AM. Visiting hours Sunday 3-5 PM. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Helen and James Bruen Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Pius V School, Lynn, MA 01904.
