Catherine “Cathy” Elizabeth (Archibald) Nichols, 74 years old of Beverly, formerly of Lynn, entered into a peaceful rest surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Friday, September 29, 2023.
Cathy was born in Lynn on June 21, 1949 to the late Gladys (Dunnigan) Archibald and Arthur Archibald of Lynn and Indiantown, FL. She attended Lynn Classical High School and after graduation, she worked at Saugus General Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. She later worked as a Home Health Aid for numerous years as her children grew up. Cathy met the love of her life, the late Robert Russell Nichols, when she saw him working at Jerry’s Army and Navy store in downtown Lynn. Cathy and Bob were married in a ceremony held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lynn on an incredibly hot August day in 1970. She and Bob were married until Bob’s untimely death in 2005.
Cathy was an amazing cook and baker. She loved crafting, especially making pillows, crocheting and needle pointing quilts for all the babies in the family, and at one time, she loved to do pottery and macramé. Cathy loved country music, seeing concerts with her mother and sister and more recently, her daughter Tina. Cathy could read a whole Danielle Steele book or any other book in a day and we believe she has read 1,000’s of books over the years. However, her most cherished accomplishments were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were the loves of her life. Cathy will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Cathy is survived by her daughters Tina (Nichols) Denis and Robert Manley of NH, Tammy (Nichols) Bragan and Jeremy Cormier of Middleton, and her “adopted” daughter Jessie Bencosme of Lynn; her former son in law John Denis of Beverly; her grandchildren Katelynn (Denis) Sudak and her husband Anthony Sudak of Beverly, Zachary Denis of Beverly, Jacob Bragan of Lynn and Taryn Bragan of Lynn; her two great granddaughters Audrey and Sophia Sudak of Beverly; her brother Donald Archibald of Indiantown, FL; and all her cherished nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
In addition to her parents her husband, Cathy is predeceased by her beloved baby Thomas Nichols, her sister Donna Nauss and her sister-in-law Jinja (Ninja) Archibald.
Family and friends are invited to attend Cathy’s visitation on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held at the Veterans Section of Pine Grove Cemetery.
