

Catherine M. (Strople) Walsh, age 89 of Newburyport, formerly of a Swampscott, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Stephen R. Walsh, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester, Massachusetts to the late William and Ellen (Maxwell) Strople. Catherine attended Gloucester High School, followed by Salem State College. At Salem State College she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as two Master’s Degrees, one in Reading Education and another in Education Administration.
Following her education, Catherine worked for the Swampscott School Department. During her tenure at Swampscott, Catherine worked as an Elementary School Teacher and as interim Principal for Machon School.
Following her retirement from the Swampscott School Department, Catherine took on part time employment at the House of Seven Gables in Salem. Catherine spent many years at the House of Seven Gables as a docent, welcoming guests and providing educational talks about the House. She also regularly performed in the annual Haunted Gables and Christmas at Gables celebrations.
She is survived by her four sons; Stephen Walsh and his wife, Patricia of Lynn, Thomas Walsh and his wife, Ajaree of Newburyport, Robert Walsh and his wife, Marianne of Rumford, RI and Peter Walsh and his wife, Alice of Groveland. Her sisters; Ellen Nelson of Gloucester, and Florence Pate of Salem, NH. Her grandchildren; Kaitlin Walsh, Stephen Walsh, Erin Walsh, Colleen Walsh, Jeremiah Walsh, Nicholas Walsh, Maxwell Walsh and Nathan Walsh. She is predeceased by her sisters Mary Strople and Gertrude Parody.
Friends and family are invited to attend Catherine’s visitation on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Interment will be private.
