

Born and raised in Lynn, Claire was the daughter of the late James and Caroline (Reeves) McKenney. She graduated from Lynn English High School Class of 1944, from Salem State College Class of 1967, and received a Master’s degree in Education from Boston University.
Claire was a teacher in the Amesbury and Norwell Public School systems, and was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Later, she worked as a legal assistant in her late husband’s law firm in Seattle, Washington.
She was the loving mother of Leslie Dressel and her husband, Allan Dressel and her late husband, Matthew Cooney, Leila Panzner and her late husband, Wayne Panzner, John Bowers and his wife, Catherine Bowers, Jeffrey Bowers and his wife, Diane, and the late James Bowers; the caring step-mother of Ronald Cyphers, II, Kevin Cyphers, Mark Cyphers, Ronita Shorey-Thorn, Jeannette Greiner, and Mary Lynn Monroe; the dear sister of the late Leo McKenney, Frank J. McKenney, Grace Gordon and Gladys Roberts; the cherished grandmother of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the adored aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Claire’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 20th, at 10:00 a.m. from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St., Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St., Lynn. Interment will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 19th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Claire’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans Charity, VA Regional Office, Rm. 1575B, JFK Fed Bldg. Government Ctr., Boston, MA 02203.
