Late Mrs. Comfort Modupe Ojo was born in 1947 to a Christian family, the late Pa Matthew Aweda and Mrs. Abigail Aweda in Omupo, Kwana State, Nigeria. She was married to the late Mr. Matthew Ayanda Ojo and together they were blessed with children and grandchildren. She dedicated herself to teaching her children how to read and write, helping them succeed in various fields.
After losing her husband in 1989, Mama chose not to remarry. Instead she sold various items to ensure we never lacked education. Rain or shine, she was a caring mother who worked tirelessly to provide for us. I have never seen a woman more dedicated to the survival and the wellbeing of her children.
Mama never spoke ill of others. She despised laziness and was tenacious, always keeping herself busy. “Hard work conquers poverty,” she would often say. Today her children have followed in her footsteps, and we do not take our businesses and jobs lightly.
Her investment in her children was indeed fruitful. Mama had a kind heart. I vividly remember how she would give money, clothes and food to families and friends in need until her last day on earth. If someone was wrong, Mama would look them in the eye and tell the truth they might not want to hear.
Mummy, we miss you. Your sweet memories and good deeds will never be forgotten. If possible, we would turn back time and ask God for another year with you.
But who are we to question God’s decisions? We love you, Mummy! We love you! We love you! You have completed your tasks here.
Even at the point of death, you showed determination and fearlessness. Everyone who witnessed your struggle knows you are a powerful woman, a fighter and a warrior. You fought to stay with us until we meet again at the right hand of our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.
We love you, but God loves you even more. Rest in peace. You were blessed with many children and grandchildren: Kehinde Lugo Sopekan, Oluwagbemiga Adeyemi Ojo, Bukunmi Burwell, Oluwashola Adesoji Ojo, Oluwafunmilayo Abiola Ojo, Oluwaseyi Oluwaseun Ojo, Oluwabukuola Adetutu Ojo, brother Andilaw O. Noyogiere and many other brothers and sisters.
