Mrs. Edith I. Benson, age 98 years, of Lynn, died Thursday at the Kaplan Family hospice House in Danvers, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Carl V. Benson, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn she was the daughter of the late Leander and Emma (Johansson) Johnson. She attended Saugus schools and graduated from Saugus High School, Class of 1934. She also graduated from Burdett College in Lynn. Edith was employed by the City of Lynn as secretary at Lynn English School. She was also a secretary of the Crippled Children’s Clinic at Lynn Hospital.
Edith was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Prime Timers Association, and Three Crown Lodge Order of VASA.
She is survived by one son Carl A. Benson of Beverly, one son-in-law James Bay and his wife Laurie Bay both of Chicago of Chicago, and one grandson Grant A. R. Bay of Chicago. She was also the mother of the late Karen B. Bay.
Services Details: Private Funeral services will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
