Eleanor M. Mackin, age 96 and lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away peacefully at her home in Lynn on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. She was born in Lynn on May 29, 1921 the daughter of the late, Joseph M. and Catherine (Lyons) Magner. She was raised and educated in Lynn. She was a graduate of St. Mary High Class of 1939. Eleanor worked as a supervisor at GE West Lynn for many years. She enjoyed volunteering for anything needed at St. Mary’s Parish. She was active with the Women’s Sodality, as a Eucharistic Minister and serving the needy in the food pantry. She and her husband were active in starting and running the Bingo at St. Mary’s. She continued this service throughout her life. Eleanor was a member of the Men’s and Women’s Club of St. Mary in Lynn for many years. Eleanor always enjoyed a good game of cards and would take on all family and friends in Words with Friends on her I-Pad. She was also a very talented knitter who always had something special for any occasion. Eleanor was a recipient of a St. Mary’s Community Service Award in 2008 and the Cheverus Award, presented by the Archdiocese of Boston, in 2013. Eleanor and her husband were also past recipients of the Irish Couple of the Year Award. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her family and by her close friends especially Patti, George and Doris from St. Stephen’s Towers.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Thomas P. Mackin in 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne M. McClung and husband, Charles of Georgetown, her sons; James M. Mackin and wife, Karin of The Colony, TX and John T. Mackin and wife, Paula of Lynn. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Jennifer Innocenti and Jessica Battle of VA, Roy McClung and Julie McClung of Georgetown, Danielle Saulnier of Melrose, James Mackin, Jr. of TX, Makenzie Mackin and Thomas Mackin of Lynn. Seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was also predeceased by her sisters; Catherine Monahan and Patricia Wall as well as her brothers; Joseph and Edward Magner.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Mackin’s visitation on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 3-7 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904. Her funeral will begin on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 9:30 AM at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 8 So. Common Street, Lynn, MA 01902.
