

Ernest J. Cote, Sr., age 89, passed away at his home in Lynn on March 19, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara G. (Aliferis) Cote, with whom he had shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Salem, MA on August 21, 1931, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Germaine (Bedard) Cote. Ernest graduated from St. Mary’s Boys School with the class of 1950. Following his education Ernest proudly enlisted in The United States Navy, and served during the Korean War. Following his service, he earned his Associates Degree from Boston University.
He worked as an accountant for many years, and upon his retirement, he was a building substitute at Lynn English High School.
In his free time, Ernest volunteered as a former treasurer of the West Lynn American Little League and was also a member of the Young Men’s Polish Golf League at the Gannon Golf Course. He loved the beach, he spent many summers at York Beach, ME with his family. He especially enjoyed time in his pool and walking his dog Chestnut.
Surviving Ernest are his children, Gail Somers and her husband Jim, Cheryl Potter and her husband Raymond all of Lynn, Scott Cote and his wife Thelxi of Swampscott, Douglas Cote, and Barbara “Buffy” Cote both of Lynn; his 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter; his brother Normand Cote and his partner Don Englehart; his former son in law Frank Ludwig and daughter in law Robin Cote; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ernest was the father of the late Ernest J. Cote, Jr., Ronald Cote, and Donald Cote. He is also predeceased by his brothers Renald and Leopold Cote; his sister Pauline Gray; and his granddaughter Holly Cote.
Arrangements: Friends and family are invited to call at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Monday, March 22rd from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 23rd at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ernest’s honor may be made to an organization of your choice.
