

Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret (Carrier) Callahan. She grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1944. She raised her family in Peabody. She then lived in Hopkinton from 1973 to 1988, and then lived in Freedom, NH, Newbury, NH and Belmont, NH, before moving to Conway, SC, to live with her daughter Patricia.
While summering at the Totem Pole Park in Freedom, NH, she worked as a registration clerk guiding people to the sites. She also formerly worked for twelve years as a school cafeteria cashier at Hopkinton High School.
She enjoyed knitting, playing dominoes, playing card games, crafts, traveling and reading. But she most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was the mother of Patricia R. Desilets and her husband James of Conway, SC, David Dwyer of Belmont, NH, Barbara-Jean Pope of Lakeland, FL, and Diane M. Dwyer of St. Augustine, FL, and was the mother-in-law of the late Phillip Pope. She was the grandmother of Rick Desilets, Tim Desilets, Dan Desilets, Brian Pope and Kevin Pope, and leaves seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late George, Francis, Benjamin and Richard Callahan, Helen Norris and Mildred Pronovost.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 4-7 PM. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 12:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA 02532. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to the American Stroke Association via stroke.org
