Jim was born in Cambridge and grew up in Cambridge and Arlington. He graduated from Matignon High School in 1970 and earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tufts University in 1974. He later received his MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1987.
Jim built a long and respected career in construction management, spending 32 years with the George B. H. Macomber Company before continuing his work in the field and later joining Commodore Builders, where he remained until his retirement in 2019. He was known for his integrity, intelligence, and quiet strength — a steady presence both on the job and with the people he cared about.
Faith and service were central to Jim’s life. He was an active parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius V Parish in Lynn, where he lived his faith through humble and consistent service. He also gave regularly as a blood and platelet donor to Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the annual 9/11 Red Cross Blood Drive at Fenway Park — a reflection of his deep commitment to helping others.
Jim was a man of few words whose wisdom carried weight. He found joy in the simple things — cheering on the Red Sox, traveling, spending time with family, listening to live music, and sharing his girls’ love of musical theatre, whether on Broadway, in Boston, or at local productions. Jim was always up for an adventure — or simply happy to be together, no matter what the day held.
Above all else, Jim was a devoted father. He made countless sacrifices for his daughters and raised them with unwavering love, patience, and pride. His dedication to Jamie and Jessica was evident in everything he did and will forever be a defining part of his legacy.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Jamie Loud and Jessica Loud-Ayer, and her husband, Greg Ayer; his sister, Barbara Loud CSJ; his brother, William Loud, and wife Marianne; his sister, Ruth Auger, and husband Lawrence; and his sister-in-law, Maryellen Loud. He is also lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Loud; his sister, Mary Meehan, and her husband, Robert; and his parents, Arthur and Lillian Loud.
Jim’s visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
