Joan Frances (Gagnon) Skidgell, a life-long resident of Lynn, passed away on Monday October 1, 2018 at Care One Peabody at the age of 85. Born in Lynn on May, 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Oray and Catherine (McMahon) Gagnon. Joan was raised and educated in Lynn. She married Harlan Skidgell on September, 4, 1955 in Lynn, where the couple settled to begin their lives together. Joan worked at J.B. Blood’s and Supreme Bakeries in Lynn as a cake decorator for a number of years. Joan then went to work with the General Electric Co. in Lynn delivering Tool Crib parts to mechanics. Her final place of employment was with the Lynn School department as a Lunch Aide in the Drewicz Elementary School where she retired. She was a long time member of both St. Patrick’s and St. Michael’s Ladies Sodality. Affectionately known as “Skittles”, Joan was known to have a quick wit, and would often tell people she was “fine and dandy like a piece of candy.” Her favorite snack was coconut dream cookies and she also loved a rousing game of Skip-Bo which she would usually always win.
Joan leaves her daughters; Cheryl Boudreau and her significant other, Edward Vander Poel, of Renton, WA and Marilyn Willard and her significant other, Steven Ruiz, of Marblehead. She also leaves her granddaughter, Amanda Matte and her husband, Jason Matte, of Tyngsboro. Joan was preceded in death by her infant son, Dana J. Skidgell.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 8:30 to 10am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, 8 So. Common St. Lynn at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
