

Mr. Leo A. Martin, Jr., age 87, of Lynn, died unexpectedly on Monday night in Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. (Burke), with whom he had shared 48 years of marriage and he leaves his longtime companion, Joan Gavegnano of Revere.
A lifelong resident of Lynn, Leo was the son of the late Leo A. and Leola (Nason) Martin. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of the Lynn Trade School.
He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. Prior to his retirement in 1989, Leo spent over 38 years as an Engineering Technician for the GE.
He was a longtime communicant of Saint Mary’s Parish where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Leo was active in community affairs and politics. He was also involved with the Marion Gardens and was an avid golfer.
He leaves his sons, Leo A. Martin III and his wife Dorothy M. of Camden, So. Carolina, Robert F. Martin of Salem, NH and John T. Martin of Lynn. He was the brother of James P. Martin and his wife Virginia of Whippany, NJ. Loving Grandfather to Michelle Martin, Michael Martin, Nicole Martin, Sarah Martin, Thomas Martin, Leo Martin and Matthew Martin and Great Grandfather to Sarah and Adriana Martin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Timothy and Terrence Martin and brother of the late Catherine Marmen, Richard A. Martin and former Ward 3 Councillor and Lynn City Clerk Joseph F. Martin.
Leo’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8PM. Gifts in Leo’s memory may be sent to Saint Mary’s Restoration Fund, 8 South Common St. Lynn, MA 01902.
