LYNN—Mary Josephine “Jo” (Dolan) White, age 83, passed away unexpectedly in her home on July 7, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late William E. White, with whom she had shared over 39 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Watertown, MA on July 23, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Annie (Green) Dolan. She attended St. Mary’s Girl’s Grammar School, and Lynn Classical High School. Josephine and her husband settled down, and raised their family in Lynn. Josephine worked for Union Hospital, as well as Lynn Hospital, for over 40 years before retiring.
Following her husband's retirement as a teacher from the Lynn Public School System, they enjoyed traveling and taking cruises to many different locations.
In her free time, Josephine loved spending time meticulously working to keep her yard and home pristine. She could often be found at her house on the hill, maintaining her perennial garden that she adored. When she did take a break, Josephine would settle in with her pet cat, Silverback. Above all else though, Josephine loved her family. There was nothing she enjoyed more than watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and succeed in life. Being with her family at cookouts, gatherings, and on trips was the light of her life; and she cherished every memory made with them.
Surviving Josephine are her children, William J. White and his wife Sue of Newburyport, John R. White and his wife Kristin of Lynn, and Susan M. DeSimone-Gillespie and her companion Kenny Graves of Lynn; her grandchildren, Christine, Kimberly, William and his wife Beth, Stephanie and her husband Rob, Joseph and his fiancee Carina, Patrick, Erin, and Meaghan; her great-grandchildren, Kayla, Marissa, and Madeleine; her beloved sister, Eileen E. Spencer of Lynn, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Josephine was the dear mother of the late James A. White, great-grandmother of the late Sarah Marie Mirra, and sister of the late John J. Dolan, and Ann Marie Barnard.
