

Maureen Elizabeth Gross, of Newburyport, Massachusetts passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Richard A. Gross and devoted companion to the late James J. Foley of 32 years. Devoted mother of Stephen Gross and his wife Michele of Amesbury. Dear sister of Clare Lynch, Regina Bixby and her husband Robert of Melrose and the late Philip Lynch and Denise Reilly Adored grandmother of Lilly and Liam Gross. Cherished daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Cusack) Lynch. Maureen is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Maureen was a 1959 graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph's Academy in Brighton, MA.
She loved her weekend visits to Cape Cod during her younger years. She began her professional career at Boston Edison before eventually transitioning to the Veterans Administration in Boston. Before her retirement in 2011 Maureen worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a contracting officer for over 20 years. She took great pride in the work she did as a federal employee.
Maureen was an avid reader and was at her happiest when curled up with a good book after a busy day at work. She loved her clothes and was an enthusiastic shopper. A trip to the mall with Moe was always a search for the best sales. She was generous with her time and loved spending it with family. Maureen loved her furry friends as well. Whether her own cats and dogs or someone else's she would always offer a lap to sit on or a treat. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday December 22nd at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St, Swampscott. Please meet directly at church. Interment will follow at Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
