Raymond “Frank” McGill, a long-time resident of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, passed away in his home on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Frank was born and raised in Saugus and was the son of the late James H. and Margaret (McGough) McGill. After high school, Frank went to work as a machinist with the General Electric Company. In July of 1943, Frank enlisted into the US Navy to help fight during World War II. He served bravely and was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate, 3rd Class on December 3, 1945. He returned home and continued working with GE. He married his sweetheart, Virginia Campbell in New Hampshire in 1962. The couple moved to their home in Peabody in 1973. Frank was very athletic and loved spending time outside. He loved to ride his bike or go for runs on the beaches of Rockport and on Good Harbor in Gloucester. Frank one time had a Harley motorcycle he loved to ride as well. Frank played both handball and racquetball competitively for many years. He also had fun skiing and playing golf.
In addition to his wife, Virginia L. McGill of Peabody, Frank leaves many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother; James McGill and his sisters; Evelyn Nelson, Margaret Huber, Alice Ekstrom, Mabel Ciambello, Dorothy Rust, Edna Ryal, and Thelma Rubman.
Visitation will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn, on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 9 to 11am followed by a graveside service at 11:30am in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
