Salvatore A. Valente

Salvatore Anthony “Sal” Valente, age 90, of Lynn, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his former wife Joyce Valente and by his son Joseph A. Valente. He is survived by his daughters Darlene Figueroa and her husband Indio Figueroa of Lynn, Lena Crowley and her husband Michael Crowley of Peabody, Pauline Valente and her husband Dennis MacDonald of Lynn, Nancy Valente of Lynn, Theresa Valente of Lynn, Joyce Valente of Lynn, and by his daughter-in-law Kristen Brown of Salem. He is also survived by his sons Sten Cook and his wife Tina Cook of Lynn, and Patrick Valente of Waltham and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his best friend Charlie, his dog, who misses him greatly.

Salvatore was born in Gaeta, Italy, in 1933 to the late Pasquale and Annunziata (Albano) Valente. As a very young man, he immigrated to Caracas, Venezuela where he worked various jobs to help support his family in Italy. He then moved to Tijuana, Mexico where he also worked various jobs. Between the money earned from manual labor jobs and the tips earned through his job at a restaurant, he was able to move to the United States.

In America, Sal worked as a meat cutter and held several jobs to support his family. Originally he moved to Somerville where his cousins resided, eventually moving to Lynn where he lived for the past 54 years and raised his family. As his children and grandchildren grew, they were fortunate to spend more time with him and experience his great sense of humor and quick wit. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an easy going person who had many hobbies and talents, some of which included gardening, shopping, cooking, music, dancing, and watching soccer. Salvatore Anthony Valente will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Salvatore’s Visitation on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a service at 11:00 am. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
