

Bill was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, son of the late Harold F. Coakley, Jr. and his late wife Evelyn and Margaret (Cox) Gormley and her late husband Arthur R.. He was a resident of Lynn for most of his life. Bill was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1966.
He was a Shipper and receiver at Boston Acoustics. He previously was the owner and operator of Coakley Express and also worked for Air Transit and Winslow Chips.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Vietnam war and held the rank of SP 4.
Bill was the Past Commander of the William P. Connery Post 6 where he is also a life member. He was Past President of West Lynn Pop Warner, a longtime member of the Franco American Post. He was an avid baseball player for Lynn Central Little League and Classical High School. Billy will always be known for his kindness, generosity and his sense of humor. Billy was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston College Football and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by his two sons Keith A. Coakley of Lynn and Jon A. Coakley of NH, one brother John Gormley of Lynn, two sisters Kathy Harrell and her husband Dennis and Mary Comeau and her husband Michael both of Lynn. Four step brothers Robin Carpenter of ME, Tracy Carpenter of AZ, Tim and Eric Carpenter of VT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda, Krystal and William, III, one nephew Josh Harrell and two nieces Erin Comeau and Stephanie Comeau.
He was the father of the late William P. Coakley, Jr., brother of the late Michael Coakley and step brother of the late Randy Carpenter.
Bills Funeral Service will be Thursday in the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME 157 MAPLE ST. LYNN at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The VA Shelter 17 Court St. Boston, MA 02108. Interment will be private.
