Don was welcomed into the world on January 21, 1928 by Lolita and Adam Kron. He was born in Portland, Oregon, and was raised in Lake Oswego, Oregon and Tacoma, Washington.
His dad was an optician, and he followed his dad's footsteps into the family business. Don served in the military, both in the Army and the Navy, where his optical skills were put to good use during World War II. He drove all over Europe and set up shop wherever he was needed to fix lenses on whatever needed fixing. In civilian life he set up an office in Cabrini Tower in Seattle. He really loved his work, and the people who he served. His patients appreciated the respect with which he treated them as he fitted their glasses.
Don met his beloved wife Jeanne while staying at his parents’ home in Bellingham. Together they raised two children, Alyce and Calvin, as well as Jim Rollman. The family spent much of their time outdoors, traveling and camping all around Washington.
Don loved the outdoors – especially camping by the ocean. He also loved playing golf, and loved his basset hound Louis. Don also sang in a barbershop quartet and played the clarinet. Don laughed easily. He was a very tall man, standing at 6 foot 4, and gave commensurately large hugs. He made friends with everyone around him.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his friend Jimbo of over 60 years who visited the hospital every day, and his neighbors who always checked on him. And especially his niece, Stephanie, who took such great care of him, and was always there for him.
A committal service for Don will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, Washington 98036. A reception will be held after the committal service, at 2:00 PM, at The Old Spaghetti Factory, 2509 196th St SW, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
