

Doris Elaine (Warnock) Welch, age 92, went to be with her Heavenly Father December 7, 2016 in Sedro Woolley, WA. She was born February 21, 1924 in Chicago, IL to the late Arthur Warnock and Alda Greer Warnock. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Morris, along with five of her six siblings. She is survived by daughter Gretchen (Phill) Strutton of Sedro Woolley, WA, son Thomas (Joan) Welch of Dublin, OH, grandchildren Laine Strutton (fiancé Shoaib Munir) of Seoul, South Korea, Kelly (Tucker) Ranft of Lewis Center, OH, Kyle (Libby) Welch of Dublin, OH, Donnald (Carri) Strutton of Glendale, AZ and Forrest (Kate) Strutton of Bellingham, WA. Also surviving are beloved great-grandchildren Aiden, Alex and Ainsley Ranft and Kathryn and Nikola Strutton, her sister Marion Pierson of DeKalb, IL and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Doris attended Chicago Public Schools through high school, followed by two years at Sterling College, a Presbyterian college in Sterling, KS. She then moved to Everett, WA where she met Morris. Eventually earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, she spent many years teaching in preschools, Head Start and several elementary schools in the Northshore School District.
She and Morris were founding and faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Bothell, where she played the piano and organ. After moving to Sedro Woolley, WA they became members of Day Creek Chapel. Besides her family, her greatest joy in life was “serving the Lord by teaching children the truths of Jesus.”
A funeral service will be held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036 on Tuesday December 13th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 202 Seattle, WA 98111-0202 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
