Frederick H. Colson passed Friday, October 27th in his home. He is now reunited with his family: Mother Erma Colson, father Brade Colson, brothers Richard “Dick” Colson, Tom Colson (survived by Marie), and his beloved sister, Elaine Jacobsen. Uncle Fred has nieces, nephews, and many cousins throughout the Northwest. Fred lived a full life. Few people know of Fred’s extensive travels throughout the west and southeastern United States, including trips to Washington DC, spending time at our capital where he developed long-lasting memories that he loved to share with anyone who would listen.
Fred grew up in Idaho Falls and in high school, he and his parents moved to the northwest, where they would call home for many years. Fred was a rockstar of a handsome man and cut a “mean rug” …he loved to go dance and spend time with friends in his younger years. Fred was passionate about baseball and would always look forward to “next year” with his Mariners. He was incredibly close and dedicated to his family, who he loved dearly.
He was arguably one of the most honest men that I’ve ever met, even having a hard time with small insignificant “tales” that would be cooked up by his brother-in-law, Don. His memory was amazingly sharp, vivid, and detailed. He could share a memory of the past almost instantly and always had a witty, sometimes goofy, response to a joke - he was the master of Dad Jokes…many of them inherited from his dad, Grampa Colson. Fred was extremely proud of his professional career with Boeing and the Coast Guard and notably proud of his “Top Secret” security clearances.
He was a man of principle and very stubborn in his beliefs. He was one of the most special people in my life - his gift to me was his loyalty, friendship, and love. There wasn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for his family. He would want each of you to know that he loved you all very much. As many of you know, an ‘I love you” was rare from Fred, but we all knew it. A simple, proud man … I loved Freddie dearly and will miss him until I see him again.
He will be laid to rest at Floral Hills in Lynnwood, WA next to his mother, father and niece, Donna Rae Jacobsen. As Fred’s requested, we will work to set a date in the summer of this coming year to celebrate his life. Please remember Fred as a friend, uncle, cousin, and keep him always close to you in your heart!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.floralhillslynnwood.com for the Colson family.
