Jon went to his Heavenly home suddenly on Tuesday, the 5th. He had suffered with MS since 1985. No more. The first world Jon lived in was a watery one. Warm, cozy, but pretty small. Got to be quite crowded toward the end. It was a little lonely but he had all his needs met, didn't have to do a thing. If you would have asked him if he would like to leave there and go to a place where he could see better, move around from place to place, and be part of a loving group, he might have said, "Sure! – sounds good, but no thanks. I'd rather stay right here." But he didn't have that choice. A day came when he felt crushing pain that got worse and worse until he exploded into the delivery room of Dr Morris Gold's office, in Lynnwood, WA, to his mother, Fern Julian Carlson and father, Kenneth L. Carlson. Jon had to learn a different lifestyle. It was hard, but he did well and was happy and cheerful, even when he entertained childhood illnesses. He was 6 years old when he met his best friend, Les Harrington, who had moved into the neighborhood. They were best friends for over 50 years. Jon went to Martha Lake Elementary, Alderwood Middle School, where he was captain of the basketball team. He was 5' 17" and a half tall! He went to Lynnwood High before he took a job with Mr. Steak, immediately becoming a huge success. He always made everybody happy, knew no strangers and always shook hands with every one he saw. Jon was married to Cathy Gilman for five years. Joshua and Renee were born to them. He worked at Carrow's and Shari's Restaurants before he was diagnosed with MS. Jon attended Northlake Church until his illness prevented it. Having a strong belief in God and choosing to accept Jesus Christ as his Saviour, we know we will be with him some day. He wasn't perfect but he was a wonderful son, brother and friend. He leaves his close family, Mom, brother, Kevin, sisters, Karin Gudmundson, Kathy Barton, nine nieces and nephews, 12 grand nieces and nephews, to join his Father and a nephew in Heaven.
You are invited to join us at a Celebration of his life at Northlake Christian Church, 19029 North Rd Bothell, WA 98012 (across from Floral Hills Cemetery) at 2 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2019. Reception following.
