Judy Korski passed away after a short illness near the end of January 2025. She was born in Spokane Washington in 1949 to Irwin “Bud” and Doris Lundstrum. She grew up in the town of Waverly, graduating from Liberty High School in 1967. She went on to attend college at Western Washington University in Bellingham. While attending school, Judy worked with the Theatre department, designing and fabricating costumes. It was there that she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Korski. They married, and their daughter Jacqui was born in 1970. Judy began a career at WWU in the late 1970’s, working in the Home Economics Department. However, it was while working in the Music Department that Judy was able to make the biggest impression on those who meant the most to her: Students. She was an academic advisor for undergraduate students in the College of Fine and Performing Arts for many years. She guided and mentored many students during her tenure in the department working under several directors. Later in her career, Judy utilized her advising experience for her work in WWU’s Admissions Department. She worked collaboratively with colleagues at institutions throughout the state to develop the Transfer Articulation program that is used at the state of Washington’s institutions of higher education today. Judy was a dependable and strong woman who was able to see the potential in others, even when they couldn’t see it. She was fiercely independent, and was not afraid to share her opinion. Those who knew her knew they were loved, valued, and accepted for who they were. She offered unwavering acceptance, an open heart and was a beautiful source of strength for many. Throughout her life, she spent creative time sewing and crocheting. After retiring, Judy enjoyed travelling with her husband, and spending time with their granddaughter Amanda. She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, and father. She is survived by her brother John, sister Joy, daughter Jacqui, granddaughter Amanda, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations to organizations that promote music access and education for young people, or children’s literacy would be a wonderful way to honor her.
