

Marilyn Astrid Ornes (Smith), wonderful wife, mom and grandma, passed away December 3, 2015. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday December 12, 10 am at Floral Hills in Lynnwood, WA. Born June 14, 1945 in Ketchikan, Alaska, Marilyn’s family moved to Petersburg, Alaska when she was a young child. Marilyn graduated from Petersburg High School in 1963 and moved to Tacoma, Washington to attend University of Puget Sound. She met her husband, Kristen Ornes from Vikedal, Norway, in Seattle and they married September 30, 1967. They had three children and settled in Bothell, Washington. In 1988 Marilyn began working for Objective Medical Assessments Corporation and retired from there in 2010.
Marilyn’s focus in life was her family. She was involved in all the school, sports, dance, church and music activities her children participated in. Family vacations were spent camping and enjoying nature as well as traveling to Alaska and Norway to visit relatives. Marilyn loved to sing and was part of the Norwegian Ladies Chorus for several years. In recent years she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Kristen Ornes, her three children, Anne-Marie (Theo) Diouf, Torgny Ornes and Jon (Erin) Ornes, her grandchildren Amelia Diouf, Nils Ornes and Hunter DeLeon, and her brother, Ted (Lynn) Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Margit and Ben Smith, her father-in-law Torgny Ornes, her brothers, Jim Smith and Tom Smith, her brothers -in-law Stein Ornes and Helge Ornes, her nephews, Rory Smith and Bryan Ornes and her niece Sine Olesen.
