Mildred Kathryn (Mehl) Nofziger, 91, passed away January 19th, 2011. She was surrounded by the family she cherished and left us just as she lived her life - with dignity and grace. She was preceded in death by Dale, her loving husband of 66 years, and is survived by her six children: David (Judy) Nofziger, Stephen (Jan) Nofziger, Carol Nofziger Johnston, Marjorie (Curt) Nofziger Webb, Susan (Philip) Nofziger Hennig and Jonathan (Merry) Nofziger; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother Darlo and her sister Audrey.Mildred was born in Indiana on January 3, 1920. Although she led a quiet life as beloved mother and wife, she was anything but ordinary. She was a published writer and accomplished teacher. She had a quick wit and a delightful sense of humor. During WWII, she volunteered to serve alongside her future husband at the Mental Hospital in Marlboro, NJ. Mildred and Dale were married on November 13, 1943 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio following Dale’s ordination into the Mennonite Church.Mildred would probably have preferred to stay planted in Ohio but was willing to take risks for her family. In 1963 she and her husband and six children packed their belongings, bought a truck and a car and headed west. They settled in Lynnwood Washington, where she put down new roots, raised her family and helped her husband start their successful family business, A House of Clocks.Mildred was a delight to all who knew and loved her. Although she will be sorely missed, Heaven is surely rejoicing at her arrival.
