Norman Reginald Lauritzen, 86, of Edmonds, passed away on February 21, 2012, surrounded by family. Norman was born to Conrad Hoff Lauritzen and Lena Regina (Saastad) Lauritzen, in a small village in Alaska called Unga. It is there where he learned the Commercial Fishing business from his family. Norman was one of the last great fishermen from the north. In 1950, Norman was introduced to the love of his life Imogene, on a blind date, set up by his sister Ruthie, who were both in Nurses training at Virginia Mason Hospital. They were married 57 years lived in Unga, Ballard, Richmond Beach and settled in Edmonds in 1961. Together they raised five children; Conrad (Josee), Janet, Norman, Alan (Laurie) and Diane (Ron). Norman is also survived by seven grandchildren; Chris, Deron, Daniel, Nikki, Kjeller, Anna, Oliver and three great grandchildren; Colton, Kayla and Julianna. Norman loved to hang out in Ballard with his friends, watch his grandchildren play sports and dink around his home and yard. In 2008, Norman received discharge papers from the Army! We were all unaware that being a member of the Alaska Territorial Guard during WWII was being in the military. The Guard members received recognition and Veterans status in 2000! He proudly displayed his certificates. Norman is happily with Imogene again, may they rest in peace together, we will miss you dad. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Fisherman’s Fund.
