Opal was born in Oconto, NE on October 20th, 1931 to Perry and Sarah (Hatch) Martin. Opal graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1949 and worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Earl Govier in 1950. Opal and Earl Govier moved to the Govier family farm located in Merna, NE. Earl and Opal moved to Washington in 1956, and settled in Edmonds, WA where they raised their two daughters Carol Ann and Kathleen. Earl, Opal and family were active members of the Edmonds Church of God. Opal was the church treasurer for many years, and supported many other church functions with her husband Earl. Opal cherished her friendships and community at her church, especially to her dear friend Lynette Healey.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 2013, and their beloved daughter Carol Ann Malcolm in 2003. Also preceding Opal in death were her parents, half-sister Pauline Cooper, and brothers Stanley and Dean.
Opal is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Kenyon) Cook of Big Sandy, MT, and grandchildren Jason Cook of Bozeman, MT, Jonathan Cook of Helena, MT, Aaron cook of Belgrade, MT, Alissa Cook of Big Sandy, MT, Arick Cook of Big Sandy, MT, Amy Malcolm of Bozeman, MT, and Austin Malcolm of Kearney, NE. Opal is survived by her sisters Glenda Davidson of Hastings, NE, Marilyn Coons of Terra Bella, CA, and Brother Perry (Arda) Martin of Everett, WA. Lastly, Opal is survived by three great grandsons, a great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will occur Monday, January 27, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
