Dick was raised in Startup, Washington. He was the devoted son of Ernie and Elsie Zabel. He was preceded in death by his brother, Walt and is survived by his sister Evelyn.
Dick went on to live a life in motion. He served as a pilot in the United States Air Force, later becoming a postman, a role that suited his steady nature and love of daily connection. His life took him across the country and into skies over every part of the world.
In later years, he made his home in the greater Seattle area and on Camano Island. He loved sports, sailing, and sitting down at the piano, where his hands told stories without words. Dick will be remembered for a life well traveled, deeply loved, and firmly anchored in family.
