Wayne Noel DeWitt beloved father of Denise, Craig and Brian, and grandfather of Blake and Dane Larsen passed away peacefully in Seattle on Sunday August 23, 2015, he was 83. Wayne was surrounded by his daughter and sons.
Wayne was born to Rollie and Emma DeWitt in Kahoka, Missouri where he was raised. Wayne left Kahoka at an early age to find adventure and his way in the world. By the early 1950’s Wayne served in the Army working under the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany during the rebuilding of Europe after WWII.
After serving in the Army Dad moved to Phoenix Arizona to be with his brother Floyd and his family. In Phoenix he eventually met his future wife Helen Garden on a blind date. Dad was immediately taken by Helen and he told her early on he was going to marry her. Wayne and Helen eventually married in August of 1957 in Seattle at Denny Park Lutheran church. After living a few years in Arizona Helen and Wayne decided to settle in Seattle and began raising a family starting with the birth of twins Bruce and Denise, later followed by Craig and lastly Brian.
In the early 1960’s Wayne began working at Gateway Arco Service Station in north Seattle eventually taking over ownership from Arco. Wayne took pride in his work, running the business and serving his customers well, earning their respect, trust and loyalty. Wayne owned the station until he retired in 1998. He was well loved by his customers and many friends he made over the years.
Wayne placed his family first and was a good provider working hard over the years in running the business and taking care of his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family on annual vacations at Lake Chelan and on Camano Island where he and Helen had a small cabin and a few acres of property. During the spring and summer Wayne was a dedicated Seattle’s Mariners fan watching most all of the games on TV. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was able to do a little traveling with Helen and Brian in retirement.
Wayne leaves a huge void in the lives of his family and will be remembered for his easy going nature, warm heartedness and his love for family.
We find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the Lord’s care and with his beloved wife Helen and son Bruce. He will remain dearly in the hearts of Denise, Craig, Brian and grandsons Blake and Dane Larsen. We look forward to seeing him again.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Floyd and James, wife Helen and eldest son Bruce. He is survived by his daughter Denise Larsen, sons Craig and Brian, and grandchildren Blake and Dane Larsen, along with several nieces and nephews.
