

MACON – Carolyn Garr Phillips, 90, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2012 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Cass Ducharme will officiate. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorial donations to Highland Hills Baptist Church, 1370 Briarcliff Road, Macon, GA 31211.
Mrs. Phillips, wife of the late John William Phillips, was born in Monroe County, to the late Albert Michael Garr and Vallie Webb Garr. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Phillips Garifalos and her nine brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Mary Person High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Tift College. Mrs. Phillips was retired from the State of Georgia, Day Care Licensing Department. She was a Charter Member of Highland Hills Baptist Church where she remained active in its ongoing ministry. She loved people and for many years was active in the community through volunteer work.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Watterson (Bill) of Alpharetta; her son-in-law, Jim Garifalos (Pat) of Loveland, OH; four beloved grandchildren, Nik Garifalos (Jenny), Lauren Hintz (Darin), Emily Dahlke (Drew) and Elizabeth Watterson; five great grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and great nephews.
