George Thomas Patras

George Thomas Patras, 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Father John Stefero officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of George T. Patras to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 859 First St., Macon GA 31201. The family will greet friends on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.

George was born on September 9, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Thomas and Evangeline Pappadopoulos Patras. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp “OO-RAH”! George was a member and served on the Parish Council of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.

George Patras was well known for his entrepreneurial spirit, which led to operating and owning some of Chicago’s most loved and famous establishments including, Butch McGuire’s, The Lodge, the Original Mother’s, Shananigans and Huey’s, and the Legendary Little Nell’s in Aspen, Colorado. After moving to Macon in the early 1980’s George operated The Rookery before opening The Cottage on Hardeman Ave. George and his wife Kathye opened the first Papouli’s in 1986, where it continues to flourish due to the love and support from the Macon community.

He leaves behind his wife of fifty two years, Kathye Vourvoulias Patras of Lizella, his daughter, Stacey Anne Patras Goss, her husband, Henry of Macon, GA, his son, Christopher George Patras of Alpharetta, GA and his loving and devoted granddaughters, Chloe Anne and Marissa Gabrielle Goss of Macon, GA siblings, James (Becky) Patras of Catonsville, MD, Emilie (Alan) VandeWeerd of Sac City, IA, Peter (Theresa) Patras of Buffalo Grove, IL, Dean (Shirley) Patras of Park Ridge, IL, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
