

Hazel Martin McCuen, 84, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 after a brief illness. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Joe McDaniel will officiate. Serving as Pallbearers will be Chuck McCuen, Mike Griffin, Emory Griffin, Wayne Garrard, Steve Hardison, Mark Hardison, Kyle McCuen and Trey McCuen. The family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon 31210.
Mrs. McCuen, daughter of the late Horace W. and Ada S. Martin, was born in Scott and lived on a farm there for the first twelve years of her life. Her family moved to Macon where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death her husband, Jesse Dendy “Mac” McCuen, Sr. and her sister, Betty Griffin. She was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School for Girls and Macon State College. Mrs. McCuen was appointed as Finance Officer and Certified County Clerk and Administrator and served during eight administrations and five different Bibb County Commissioners retiring after thirty-one years. She and her late husband, Jesse Dendy “Mac” McCuen, Sr. were married for fifty-eight years and were members of Mabel White Baptist Church and Vineville Baptist Church. Mrs. McCuen loved her home State and was active in the life of her community serving as Past President of Georgia Federation of Democratic Woman, Past President of Bibb County Democratic Women, on the State Democratic Executive Committee for Governor Joe Frank Harris and on Bibb County Democratic Executive Committee. In Macon, her beloved home town, she served as President of Bibb County Exchangettes, was a member of Middle Georgia Historical Society, Macon Heritage and Macon Beautification, Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, as President of American Legion Auxiliary (Unit 3) and was a Mayoral Candidate in 1985.
She will be missed by those she loved most, her sons, Dendy (Cindy) McCuen, Jr. and David (Charlotte) McCuen, all of Macon; her grandchildren, Kyle McCuen and Kayla McCuen, of Atlanta and Trey McCuen and Olivia McCuen, of Macon; her brother, Harold (Janet) Martin of Nashville, TN and nieces and nephews.
