Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. Pastor Paul Dziadul will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
Mr. Mathis was born in Mayfield, Kentucky the son of the late Marjorie Heflin Mathis and Monroe Mathis. He was a retired AFIT Communications Specialist at Robins Air Force Base and was also a retired United States Air Force veteran, having served both honorably for 41 years.
Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Olive Heffron Mathis; children, LeAnna Shufelt and James “Jim” Mathis (Debbie); step-children, Tracy Neill, Colleen Neill, and Shirley Neill; grandchildren, Dillan Mathis, Kaley Mathis, Kaitlynn Shufelt, and Tiffany Mathis; siblings, Betty Sanders, Carol Williams, and Richard Mathis.
