

MACON – After an extended illness, John G. Weiss, Jr. escaped the bounds of this earth to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday morning, March 20, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Stan Braley will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 ML King, Jr. Blvd. #201, Macon 31201.
Mr. Weiss spent the last few years of his life in the loving care of the Carl Vinson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Dublin, Georgia. The hospital became like a second home to his wife, Patricia Sanderfer Weiss, who was always underfoot and graciously tolerated. Prior to going into the hospital he lived in Macon.
John was born in Jamestown, NY on September 11, 1946. He was the son of the late John G. Weiss, Sr. and Elinor Whitcomb Weiss. His paternal grandparents were John A. and Hulda Weiss and his maternal grandparents were Clarence and Laura Wilson Whitcomb.
Mr. Weiss came to Georgia in 1968, when he was a member of the USAF. He fell in love with the Middle Georgia area and came back to make it his home and to work at the Macon Municipal Airport as an air traffic controller.
John attended Forest Hills United Methodist Church. He was past member of the Macon Motor Boat Club and no bass fish was safe when he was around.
Mr. Weiss is survived by his wife, Patricia Sanderfer Weiss; daughter, Mickie Weiss Edwards and her husband, Shane; sister, Ronile Weiss McWhirter and her husband, Wilmer; step-daughter, Kimberlee Grissom and her husband, Olin; granddaughters, Emily Rynn Edwards, Katelyn Grissom and Haley Lilley; niece, Heather McWhirter; nephew, Robbie McWhirter.
