I served as a resident with Dr.Buchhammer at Wyckoff Hospital from 1983 through 1985. It was a pleasure to know and work with Marcello. No matter how bad things got, and believe it got bad at times, he always had a smile on his face. He was full of compassion for his patients and he was a very very hard worker. We did not keep in touch much after residency to my regret. I wish his family the best as I am sure he will be missed.

Our family were longtime neighbors with the Buchhammers when they lived in Rosemead, California.  Mr. Buchhammer and son Charlie came by for a visit yesterday to tell us the sad news. We are all shocked and saddened to hear of Marcelo's passing. He was such a nice guy from a good loving hardworking family. To go at 57 seems young, yet he led a good life of service to others. Our sympathy to his loved ones and friends who miss him as well. May he rest in peace.

We are so sorry to hear of Dr. Marcelo Buchhammer's death. I am a long-time patient of Dr. Carlos Buchhammer. I grieve for what Dr. Carlos and his family must be going though. Me and my wife just found out about the untimely passing of a great Doctor and a good friend. We have not seen Dr. Marcelo Buchhammer for a many of years. He was mine and my wife's Doctor for years and he saved both of our lives, he even got me to quit smoking. our hearts go out to the Buchhammer family and wanted  to let everyone know that God now has himself a good personal doctor. Many a night I have been unable to think about conceptualizing writing anything of what an amazing father I knew as my Dad.  Tonight, I feel close enough to him to speak meer utterances of what a wonderful man he was. I cannot express how much he meant to me and all of his family.  For selfish reasons, I will miss the guidance and courage he instilled in me with our lengthy conversations, modeled lessons, and disciplinary measures, to say the least. I only wish I felt as blessed as he, to pass along the great knowledge, wisdom, and advice he always seemed to have for anyone he met.  Dad was an awesome being, knowing his purpose in life, and fulfilling it, no matter how lengthy life became.  I only hope that what he was, can be expressed in the most miniscule way, through those who knew him.  My heart still aches so much, at times, it is unbearable, but knowing that my dad would have wanted us to stay strong, is the only measure that keeps me on the right path. I thank each and everyone one of you who have taken the time, thoughts, or kindness to keep our father and family in your thoughts and prayers.  It would mean so much more than you can imagine, if my dad were able to see it.  What an amazing man that deserved his time to rest.  I love and will always cherish my unconditional loving Dad.  I love you Dad...may you rest in peace, until the day we are united.

Marcelo and I met in  1977-78 while waiting to get into medical school. We were both thrilled when the word came that we were  accepted and would spend the next four years studying our butts off. I was very young when i met Marcelo and had never been away from home if not for Marcelo I most likely would have not finished medical school and would have definitly ran home. It was Marcelo's kindness,  horrible cooking and his savey buisness sense that got us through. During those years, it was his creative busines ventures that opened the door, or border, into the large bird trade. We bought and sold macaws driving them from ElPaso Texas to California in Marcelos hopped up V.W.   We tried lifting weights but had no real success; the  enhancments bought in Mexico must have been fakes. We tried playing basketball but the truth is that Marcelo was the worst, not to mention vertically challenged. We somehow made it through medical school and were reunited in New York during our residency training program.We spent the next three years working as  ER attendings and trying to enjoy as much of New York as we could, and believe me; WE DID! We spent lots of time at each others homes, celebrating holidays and just looking to have a good time.Marcelo was an excellent intern and resident, he could always be found either in the residents on call room sleeping or telling jokes with the nurses on the unit.  I could go on forever about my dear friend ,but i doubt there is enough room on this page. Enclosed is a picture of Marcelo at my wedding along with other very close friends. I last spoke to Marcelo earlier this year while being visited by  our mutual friend Eddie ,my wife and I will miss him dearly . I nicknamed  him Masculo and that will be our secret to be laughed about when we see each other again. Good-bye my Friend.

He taught me more in those 4 years then I had learned in my entire nursing career. He was a compassionate man, whom was always ready to help those in need. My heart goes out to his family, especially Ms. Carolyn (his sweet wife. We often talked about God and salvation, so I know that this is a temporary departure and we shall meet up again one day. What can possibly be said about such a great man! The void he will leave in our lives will never be filled, but, we may take comfort in the knowledge that he does go on to a far better place, free of the fetters of mortal exsitence, to be with the Lord he so dearly loved.

I spent the day reflecting on Marcelo, his kindness, compassion, laughs and stories we shared on our several "road trips" to Indiana (we were about due for another one!!!), cutting up with him, his wicked sense of humor, (we'd get laughing so hard, I could barely see the road because of the tears streaming down my face), our LENGTHY talks (on coins, watches, firearms, politics, religion, & cars), his humility (which never ceased to amaze me!), and his inner beauty that he radiated outward for those who took the time to notice! He always made time to chat with anyone who would listen, and he genuinely cared about those he encountered.

 He was such a special, beautiful, caring, loving and funny man, and I loved him like a brother, my heart is truly broken (for my own selfish reasons of wanting him to stay with us!), but I know he is at peace!
 
I will strive for the rest of my life to follow the path of caring and beauty that he set before me! (Us!!!) 

Heaven is truly a better place now that Marcelo is home! 

I thank God the last time I saw Marcelo, I hugged him, kissed his cheek and told him that I loved him!

One night we were all playing a game and had to think of a state that started with the letter B.  There is none, but Marcelo and I both said "Bama" at the same time and we both laughed.  I saw Marcelo as a patient here in Warner Robins and he still had that great personality. He will be greatly missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I worked with Dr. Buchhammer at Perdue Farms in the Medical Department.  He was a very compassionate man.  If anyone saw Dr. Buchhammer as a patient they will remember that he always drew pictures to help everyone better understand.  He was a pleasure to work with and a very intellegent man who loved sharing his knowledge with anyone that showed an interest. I met Dr. Marcelo in 1988 when he worked with me in ER at Coliseum in Macon. They were just starting their practice and John Krowicki was driving down from Atlanta to work with them and us in the ER. I loved it when he was on duty. He was a great ER doctor and a load of fun.  Working with good people doesn't always happen and when it does, well, it just makes all the difference. I remember hearing his remarkable story of surviving a motorcyle accident in Henry County. He was so bad that the people at the scene pronounced him but a passing doctor revived him.  He would later meet up with this doctor by accident in the ER at Coliseum.( I believe his name was Bernardo Maldonado)  He always seemed to have a love of life and for his family and profession. We have lost a great doctor but it is heavens gain. My thoughts are with the family and many friends and patients of this good physician.

Dr. Marcelo was a really kind soul. I use to work at Houston Medical Center as a unit secretary and he always was kind and polite to all the staff members when he came to check on his patients.  He would bring goodies for the staff members during the holidays and he would sometimes just hang out with us on the floor while waiting for test results for his patients to come back.  He will be remembered as a good man and a good doctor to many and a good friend to many as well.  I am sorry for your loss.
