

Marie Dorsey Wellons, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA. Burial will be private for the family with Rev. Jimmy Towson officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 Martin Luther King Blvd, Macon GA 31201 or Forest Hills United Methodist Church, Mission Fund, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon GA 31204.
Mrs. Wellons was born in Fulton, County to the late Angus Benton Cicero and Lillian Ratliff Dorsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus Rupert Wellons and her sister, Elaine Taylor. Mrs. Wellons was a graduate of A.L. Miller High School and was a Medical Secretary for Dr. E.C. McMillian for thirty years and for several years for Dr. James Lindsey. She was a dedicated member of Cherokee Heights Methodist Church for sixty three years, where she was a member of the Wynnie Mae Hill Sunday school class and taught Sunday school and was on the Administrative Board and the Pastor Parrish Relations Board. Mrs. Wellons was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Faithful Friends Sunday school class. She was a member of the American Auxiliary Medical Association and very active in tennis and golf and held many offices with the Bowden Ladies Golf Association. She was known for her quiet, gentle, encouraging, sweet spirit and was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her son, Michael E. (Edna) Wellons of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Robin W. Sasser of Macon, five grandchildren, Michael E. Wellons, Jr., Katherine C. Wellons, Elizabeth D. Wellons, Kelly (Mark) Bryant and Michael Sasser, one great grandchild, Kirsten Wellons, brother, James H. (Susanne) Dorsey and several nieces and nephews.
