

Nellie Taylor Giddens, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 15, 2014. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Haskins officiating. Entombment will be in Macon Memorial Mausoleum. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tattnall Square Baptist Church, 4925 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Mrs. Giddens was born in Glenwood, Georgia to the late William T. and Nola Warnock Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband, Broadus “Dock” Giddens and siblings, Elsie Taylor, Evie Chaffin, Lee Vroom and W.T. Taylor. She lived most of her life in Macon and attended Bibb County Schools. Mrs. Giddens was retired from Robins Air Force Base as a Computer Programmer and was a member of the National Association of Federal Retired Employees Chapter 2141. She was a member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church and the Dorcas Bible Class.
She was an avid quilt maker and was a charter member, and former officer of the Heart of Georgia Quilt Guild. She was also a part of the Scrapaholics Quilting Bee and was a former officer as well as the data entry coordinator of the Georgia Quit Project. She was on the 1996 Olympic Committee for the “Look of the Games” involving quilting.
She is survived by daughter, Arlene (Larry) Giddens Grimsley of Dahlonega, GA; sons, Gregg (Debra) Giddens of Loganville, GA and Dr. Keith B. (Kristi) Giddens of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren, Wendy G.(Jeff) Durnwald, Laurie G.(Brian) Cleland, Taylor (Kate) Grimsley, Michael (Elizabeth) Giddens, Mary Beth (Zach) Shelnutt, Keith B. (Jessica) Giddens, Jr., D. Benjamin Giddens II, and Samuel C. Giddens; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and nieces that are like sisters, Joy Taylor Woodard and Dean Newman Grimsley.
