Norman Echols, Sr., 73 died Sunday, May 6, at his residence, after an extended illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 11 at 12 Noon in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. John Irwin will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Mr. Echols was born in Macon to the late Calvin Lee and Nadyne Bryant Echols. He worked for nearly 20 years with the Macon Police Department, but had also worked for the Macon Telegraph and as a truck driver. Most recently, Mr. Echols worked for YKK as an industrial mechanic. Norman earned an Associates Degree from Middle Georgia Technical College and was a former member of the Macon Exchange Club, being active with the Georgia State Fair. Norman was an active member of Dixon United Methodist Church, in Lizella, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra M. Echols in 2016.
Survivors include his 6 sons, Norman Lee Echols, Jr. (MaryAnn), Jeffrey Lee Echols (Donna), Mercer Bazemore, Mike Bazemore (Cathy), Steve Bazemore (Brenda), Randy Bazemore (Jan); brother, Richard Alton Echols; a special cousin, Dennis Echols; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; many friends and extended family members.
