Rodney Neal Powell

5 March, 19663 June, 2021

Rodney Neal Powell was born on March 5, 1966, to Artis, Sr. and Mattie Thomas Powell in Fairmont, West Virginia. The family eventually moved to Georgia, residing in both Warner Robins and Centerville.

Rodney developed a great passion for reading and watching horror movies at an early age. He enjoyed science fiction and fantasy movies, books, stories, etc., also. Following his passion, he became a published horror genre author in January 2021, partnering with his spouse Chandra Renee Powell. Rodney was anticipating the release of his second novel. He aspired to be the Jackie Robinson of the horror genre, as he would say, and compared himself to Alfred Hitchcock.

He also enjoyed political activism online, forming several groups to combat racial inequality and promoting voting rights.

Rodney passed away at his home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, in Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Artis, Sr., and Mattie Thomas Powell.

Precious memories of Rodney are left to his wife, Chandra Renee Powell; step-sons, Kendall Miles and Jalen Miles; sisters, Mary Jo Fayoyin (Gabriel) and Jacqueline Powell; brothers, Artis Powell, Jr. (Ruth), Glenn Powell (Sissy), and Kenneth Powell (Deborah); uncle, J. Mac Brown; aunts, Winnie Brown and Bernice Walker. Rodney leaves behind a host of family and friends in both Texas and Georgia to cherish his memory.

Rodney, who was a very loving man and enjoyed his family, will be greatly missed.

Visitation was held from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Comeaux Community Mortuary & Cremations in Beaumont, Texas.

A Celebration of Rodney's life will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. and committal services will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

Whether you called him husband, brother, Rodney, or you are family or a friend, he will be missed dearly, but his remarkable legacy and life will be celebrated with gratitude.

My little brother, Rodney, was smart, sweet, and funny. Even as a little boy you never knew what he would do next. One episode I will never forget. My husband, Gabe, and I were dating. Gabe was helping Rod with his arithmetic. After finishing, Gabe took Rod home. When Gabe returned to my apartment, he told me about a conversation he had with Rod. Rod said, “Mary Jo has so many boyfriends, do you know why she has so many boyfriends?!” When I asked Rod why he would make up such a story, he said, “I was talking to Gabe and he wasn’t listening to what I was saying. So, I told him you had a lot of boyfriends because I knew he would listen to that!”.
