Virginia Marie Cornegay-Grimes

Virginia Marie Cornegay Grimes was born March 11, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to the late David and Adel Carter. She was preceded in death by her companion, Leavie Cornegay; children, James Grimes, Julian Grimes, Annie Cernogg and Rosa Mary Height; step-children, Elizabeth Bryant, Hattie P. Phillips and Leavie “Butch” Cornegay, Jr.

Virginia departed at Emory Decatur Hospital on March 4, 2020 after a long illness.

Virginia was a loving and devoted mother and friend. She loved to cook, plant flowers, and travel.

She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Ruby Mack and Gloria Grimes; sons, Levi Grimes (Wendy), and Joe Grimes (William); step-children, Richard Cornegay, Michael Cornegay, Matthew Cornegay, William Cornegay, Joann Golden, Vivian Thomas, Venessa Hodge, and Cora Smelter; devoted son-in-law, William Speller; 19 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
