Carolyn (Gardiner) Thompson, 79, of Marblehead, passed away at Emeritus at Cherry Hill in Danvers on February 3, 2011. She was the wife of the late Arnold Thompson. Born in Oakland, CA, she was the daughter of the late Harrison C. and Barbara R. (Wilbur) Gardiner.
She was a graduate of Las Vegas High School, class of 1949. Carolyn was proud to have served her country during the Korean War and the ability to fly a plane in the United States Air Force. She worked at various jobs including lunch lady at the Gerry School and housekeeper at the Old North Church in Marblehead. She was an avid artist and a member of the Marblehead Arts Association as well as various “ham” radio groups including the Military Affiliate Radio Systems.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Kathie Withum and her husband Bob; and her grandson, Bob Withum Jr. all of Danvers. She also leaves her sisters, Barbara Wilson and her husband Bruce, Nancy Sisk and her husband Paul, Ann Harrelson, Lori Angel, and Margie Andrijasivich and her husband Doug; her brother, Harrison Chick Gardiner Jr.; and her step-mother, Lorraine Wade all of CA. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the Memory Care Unit at Emeritus and Hospice of the North Shore for the care Carolyn received.
A funeral service will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Tuesday, February 8 at 11AM. Burial with honors to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visitation will begin at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to the Marblehead Animal Shelter, 44 Village Street, Marblehead, MA 01945.
