

Catherine F. “Cathy” (Fagan) Newton, 93, of Peabody and lifelong resident of Marblehead, died peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Brooksby Village, Peabody, MA. She was the wife of John W. Newton who predeceased her in 2005 after 63 years of marriage.
Cathy was born in Forkhill, county of Armagh, Ireland as a Naturalized US citizen. She graduated from Somers Central High School in NY. She received her LPN Degree in 1963 and worked at Salem Hospital for 30 years. Her greatest love, beside her family, was her crafts. Cathy’s other children were the porcelain dolls that she made in her kiln, hand-painted their faces and body, and sewed their period clothing. She designed many Humpty Dumpty dressed-eggs and made many Silhouettes. Cathy also knitted, crocheted and embroidered many items over the years.
She is survived by her sons, Mark of Ipswich, MA, and Richard and his wife Mariane of Naples, FL; Granddaughters, Rebecca Delaney and her partner Judie of Beaverton, OR, and Jennifer Holgren and her husband Terri; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth of Gloucester. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held in the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Tuesday, April 19 at 11AM. Visitation will begin at 9AM. Cremation followed by interment with her husband in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Brooksby Village Scholarship Fund in memory of Catherine Newton.
