Cherie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kate E. Shipulski of Beverly (Stephen Andrews); grandsons Owen and Jaxon O’Keefe (Richard O’Keefe); brother John Hood (Arlene Humphreys); sister Kathryn “Pam” Earle (Gerry Earle) and their sons Robin and James; and Martha Penzer, her father Paul’s widow. She will also be deeply missed by her extended Shipulski family, cousins, nieces and nephews, lifelong friends from Saugus, Marblehead, Madison Shores, Delray Beach, and across Florida, as well as by her many beloved students in both Massachusetts and Florida.
Cherie was predeceased by her parents, Rita Murphy Cahill and Paul Emerson Hood, Jr., her son Kyle Daniel Shipulski, and her former husband and dear friend Daniel W. Shipulski.
A proud graduate of Saugus High School, Cherie began her studies at Endicott College, earned her B.A. from Lesley College, and later received her M.Ed. from Salem State College. She spent her career as a reading specialist in the Saugus Public Schools, serving for decades in the Title I program. One of the longest-tenured teachers in the district, she dedicated her life to helping children discover the joy of reading and learning.
Cherie had a special gift for recognizing the best in people and helping them see it too. Her friendships spanned every chapter of her life—classmates, “Cape girls,” teaching colleagues, neighbors, and travel companions. She loved swimming, antiquing, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, cooking, entertaining, and traveling near and far.
After retiring, Cherie continued her passion for education as a volunteer tutor, assisting with local reading programs. Even as she faced health challenges, she approached life with faith, humor, and grace. She had recently planned a safari to three African countries, which she reluctantly canceled just before this Halloween—a testament to her enduring spirit of adventure.
Cherie lived life fully, on her own terms, and enriched the lives of everyone who knew her.
