Dorothy M. Jarvis

Dorothy Melville Jarvis, aged 82 of Marblehead, died peacefully on Wednesday the 4th of March at The Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Dorothy was born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 10, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Margaret (Peggy) Donaldson. She was raised in Glasgow and graduated from Jordanhill College (now University of Strathclyde).

Dorothy managed the culinary operation for the National Institute for Medical Research in greater London while she and her late husband, Trevor, lived there during the 1950’s. They moved to Strathaven, Scotland when Trevor joined Rolls-Royce plc and it was here that their two sons were born. In 1972 she and her family immigrated to St. Lambert, Quebec, Canada, when Trevor joined Pratt & Whitney Canada, and in 1979 she and her family immigrated for a second time to Cincinnati, Ohio and later moved to Marblehead, MA when Trevor joined GE Aircraft Engines. They decided to settle in Marblehead because of the positive experience associated with the annual St. Lambert / Marblehead hockey exchange program that, interestingly enough, her future daughter-in-law’s extended family helped start in the 1960’s.

Dorothy had a rewarding 25-year career as a real estate agent with Caldwell Banker where she had the opportunity to spread her charm and positive energy with so many people on the North Shore. Dorothy adored her grandchildren and loved to cook and bake. She delighted many people’s palates with her dinners, and sweet teeth with her cakes and treats.

She is survived by her brother, Stuart Donaldson, her two sons, Graeme and Stephen, Graeme’s wife, Lisa and her family, along with her two granddaughters Kady Bryn and Lily Ayn.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead on Friday, April 10 at 11AM. Reception to immediately follow the service.
