Marquis Magee, of Salem, died unexpectedly on September 14th, while fishing in Panama. He was sixty-five years old. Mark, whose passions included his family and the outdoors, led an uncommonly rich and varied life.
He graduated from Kimball Union Academy, attended Northeastern University, and went on to earn various pilot licenses. Then left for Puerto Rico where he worked as a pilot for several years.
Subsequently he became a successful business man, travelling the world extensively. His accomplishments were evidenced by his early retirement.
After retiring, he and a friend purchased his long-time favorite spot, the Marblehead pub icon, "Maddies Sail Loft.”
Those who knew Mark saw him as an Earnest Hemingway type, albeit without the writing skills. His entire life he was fascinated by nature’s wildlife, oceans, ponds, lakes, woods and fields. He frequently travelled to all corners of the world to experience its abundant pleasures and joys. His favorite place was the plains of Africa, where he established deep friendships.
Mark adored his wife Cookie, daughter Chloe, son Ryan and wife Diana, daughter Reagan and husband Brian, and granddaughter Marley. His parents are Patricia and the late Leonard Magee. Mark is also survived by his sister Heidi Magee and husband Bill Berriman, and, brother Jody Magee and wife Perky. His longest, dearest friend is Michael Athanas.
"Everybody loves Mark"; all during his life, his family heard that. He was strong minded, yet sensitive toward the people and things that mattered to him. He worked and played harder than most, and, not too many things he sought from life escaped him.
Visiting hours will be at the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home in Marblehead on Thursday, September 23rd from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. A private, family burial is being arranged.
